On July 11th 2024, Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) issued an official announcement with reference number: SQASI/CMCS/1/24/0007. This announcement concerns about “Updates on Certification of Ipv6 Over Cellular Equipment Without Wi-Fi Interface (Under Terminal/Host) Or Ipv6 Equipment Over Other Medium (E.G: Fiber Optic Etc. Except Ethernet Lan) Under Interim Type Approval”. How this official announcement will affect IPV6 certification in Malaysia? Let’s find out.
IPV6 Certification in Malaysia
IPV6-equipent are mandatory to be certified in Malaysia from July 10th 2020 onward. This policy is practiced under the technical code MCMC MTSFB TC T013:2019 Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6) – Equipment Compliance (First Revision).
The products that are included within this scope are all IPv6 based devices including Terminals/Hosts (e.g. 3G/4G/5G Access Points), Network Security Elements (e.g. Firewalls). And Network Elements (e.g. Switching/Gateway Equipment).
Therefore, if you are about to distribute some of these products to Malaysia, please make sure that Certificate of Conformity for IPv6 devices are already obtained through the interim approval scheme.
Interim Approval for IPV6 Certification in Malaysia
Back to the official announcement number SQASI/CMCS/1/24/0007, through this announcement MCMC informed that the interim type approval implementation for IPv6 cellular equipment that has no Wi-Fi interface or IPv6 equipment over other medium such as Fiber optic, will be extended for one year ahead, starting from July 10th 2024. Within this time period, new Certificate of Conformity application and renewal of Ipv6 Certification in Malaysia will be accepted with 1-year maximum validity.

After Certificate of Conformity is obtained through the interim approval scheme, within the interim period applicants are requested to perform test in testing laboratories accredited by MCMC.
After test is finished, they can forward the test reports later to SIRIM for further evaluation. Full approval certificate will be issued if the device passed IPv6 applied technical standards such as:
- General (power supply, power supply cords and plugs, electromagnetic compatibility, markings, language and electrical safety)
- IPv6 Compliance (5-core Request for Comments (RFCs) i.e. RFC 8200, RFC 4861, RFC 4862, RFC 8201, RFC 4443)
